The key to the development of the elevator industry!

That is the content of a number of key solutions raised by the Chairman of the Vietnam Elevator Association Nguyen Hai Duc in his speech at the 52nd Anniversary of World Standards Day (October 14). The event was organized by the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality - Ministry of Science and Technology in Hanoi.

Opening the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Le Xuan Dinh emphasized: “As an official member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Codex Alimentarius Commission – CAC and as an associate member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Vietnam has the right and responsibility to actively participate in the standard development process so that Vietnamese products and goods can reach out to the world market. At the same time, we also need to promote the development and application of national and international standards as the foundation for production and business activities and protect the legitimate interests of businesses, as well as consumers”

Up to now, Ministry of Science and Technology has published more than 13,500 Vietnamese Standards, approaching international standards, regional standards reaching over 60%, covering most areas of the economy, supporting businesses, enterprises actively strengthen their capacity and prepare the best solutions and strategies in complying with rules and regulations to meet the requirements of economic development and deep integration in global commercialization.

In the current system, there are over 200 Vietnamese standards serving green energy including renewable energy, solar power, wind power, biofuels, energy management, environmental management - greenhouse gases, environmental labels environment, water reuse, CO2 capture and transport,…

Among the presentations at the Celebration, the speech of the President of the Vietnam Elevator Association (VNEA) gained much attention. According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Duc, for the elevator industry, Vietnam now has many standards and regulations that have been converted and applied from European standards. However, the number of machines, components, equipment or expertise to carry out the measurement, counting is not enough, not meeting the requirements.

“In terms of industry human resources, although there is training, there are no specific standards and regulations, no set of occupational skills standards. This situation is like inviting a doctor to treat a disease, but don't know which school he graduated from and whether or not qualified to treat a disease?", VNEA President compared the situation.

VNEA President emphasized the importance of ESG Standards for sustainability of Vietnamese enterprises.

The VNEA President shared that businesses often have many goals and each stage has different strategies. However, the current general development trend is towards ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), which is a set of standards to measure factors related to development sustainability and the impact of the business on the community.

Firstly, on environmental factors, it is necessary to orient to production, business, research and manufacturing activities, all must be towards the goal of environmental protection, sustainable nature conservation.

Second, in the development process, each business has certain impacts on society. Therefore, social influence is an integral factor in the development of enterprises. Instead of the interests of one party and the business, we must focus on the community, the consumer, the sustainable benefit of the community and the employees. All those factors become the guideline in production planning, development strategy as well as creating business ethics of enterprises.

Thirdly, governance includes both macro and micro-management. In terms of national governance, how are legislators and government executives oriented towards sustainability goals. And micro-management is internal management of the enterprise, business leaders will plan how to orient the business towards the environment and corporate social responsibility. The hallmarks of a business meeting high levels of ESG criteria are: Meeting positive environmental standards; Promote social responsibility; Good governance and direction; Leading in the field of activity; Anticipate and mitigate risks well…

“According to a survey, in the US, up to 66% of customers when asked have chosen products of businesses with community goals in the production and business process. But moving towards ESG goals will be difficult and expensive, but surely businesses will develop more sustainably. If it can be done, businesses will receive strong support from employees and the community, helping them to have a more sustainable and better brand," said VNEA's chairman.

Orona has become the first elevator brand in the world to be certified for compliance with the standard Ecodesign ISO – 14006

The three organizations ISO, IEC and ITU have agreed to come up with the theme of World Standards Day "Stands for the Sustainable Development Goals - A Shared Vision for a Better World".

The goal of 2022 is to act on and drive change, especially in the context of climate and environmental action, to turn a shared vision into reality. Increasing energy efficiency and using renewable energy are key to meeting the world's energy needs and contributing to global goals to reduce carbon emissions.

The sets of standards are effective tools to help achieve this goal./.
