5 important Vietnamese standards about elevators

Elevators are regulated in the list of "machines, equipment, materials and substances subject to strict requirements on occupational safety and hygiene". Therefore, the Vietnam Standards (TCVN) were regulated to standardize the process of manufacturing, testing, operating and using elevators.

1. TCVN 6396-28:2013: Safety requirements for elevator construction and installation, issued in 2013 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is one of the most important Vietnamese standards for elevators and includes:

- TCVN 6395:2008, Electric elevators - Safety requirements for structure and installation.

- TCVN 6396-2:2009 (EN 81-2:1998), Hydraulic lifts - Safety requirements for construction and installation.

- TCVN 6396-3:2010 (EN 81-3:2000), Safety requirements for elevator construction and installation - Part 3: Electric and hydraulically driven freight lifts.

- TCVN 6396-28:2013 (EN 81-28:2003), Safety requirements for the construction and installation of elevators – Freight lift and passenger lift - Part 28: Remote alarms on passenger lifts and passenger and freight lift.

- TCVN 9396-58:2010 (EN 81-58:2003), Safety requirements for elevator construction and installation - Inspection and testing - Part 58: Fire resistance test of landing doors.

- TCVN 6396-70:2013 (EN 81-70:2003), Safety requirements for the construction and installation of elevators - Applicable exclusively to passenger and freight lifts - Part 70: Capability Access to elevators of people including people with disabilities.

- TCVN 6396-71:2013 (EN 81-71:2005/Amd 1:2006), Safety requirements for the construction and installation of elevators - Applies exclusively to passenger and freight lifts - Part 71: Anti-vandal lifts when in use.

- TCVN 6396-72:2010 (EN 81-72:2003), Safety requirements for the construction and installation of elevators - Applies exclusively to passenger and freight lifts - Part 72: Fire lift

- TCVN 6396-73:2010 (EN 81-73:2005), Safety requirements for the construction and installation of elevators - Applicable exclusively to passenger and freight lifts - Part 73: Status of passenger lifts and lifts in the event of a fire.

- TCVN 6396-80:2013 (EN 81-80:2003), Safety requirements for elevator construction and installation - Lifts in use - Part 80: Requirements for safety improvement for passenger lifts and passenger and freight lift.

2. Household elevator standard TCVN 6395:2008: This elevator quality standard provides safety regulations on the components that make up the elevator as well as the requirements in the installation of the elevator.

- TCVN 6395: 2008 was issued in 2008 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is a component of the TCVN 6396-28:2013.

- TCVN 6395: 2008 main content is electric elevator - safety requirements for construction and installation, fixed installation, serving defined floors, with a car designed to carry people or goods with people, suspended by cable or chain, moving along guide rails placed vertically or tilted not more than 150 degrees from the vertical.

3. TCVN 6905:2001: Issued in 2001 by the Ministry of Science and Technology. This standard specifies a test method for the safety requirements of construction and installation for hydraulically driven lifts.

The test method is specified in the following cases:

- After installation before putting into use

- After carrying out the renovation, repair, and overhaul

- After a serious accident has been repaired

- Expiry of license

- At the request of the occupational safety management agency.

4. TCVN 6904:2001: Specifies test methods for safety requirements on construction and installation for electric-driven elevators.

The test method is specified in the following cases:

- After installation before putting into use;

- After carrying out the renovation, repair, and overhaul;

- After a serious accident has occurred and has been repaired;

- Expiration of the license to use;

- At the request of the occupational safety management agency.

5. TCVN 5866:1995: Elevators – Mechanical safety mechanism. This standard applies to lifts classified and defined in accordance with TCVN5744:1993 and specifies safety requirements for the following mechanisms:

- Requirements for the cabin speed controller (counterweight)

- Requirements for the car's brake (counterweight).

- Requirements for car buffers and stops (counterweights)

- Requirements for automatic locking of landing doors
