How to Properly Clean Elevators

"Durable goods are up to the user", a device or item has a long or short lifespan depending on our use and care. As a means of transportation associated with human life safety, the elevator needs special care. In addition to regular elevator maintenance, you also need to pay attention to elevator cleaning. A lot of people do not care about this issue or do it poorly.

Why should the elevator be cleaned?

It would be wrong to assume that an elevator with a shiny appearance is not dirty at all. In fact, there are many bacteria living in your elevator. Bacteria from people, shoes, dirt from clothes, bags, etc. According to a study, buttons and handrails in elevators carry 40 times more bacteria than toilet seats. There are bacteria that cause colds, respiratory infections, or intestinal infections (typically Ecoli bacteria), ... Due to the closed elevator car design, it is a more favorable environment for bacteria to accumulate and attack no matter how little or how much you use it. Bad smells or damp conditions in the elevator will also make people feel uncomfortable.

Not to mention the long-term accumulation of dirt that can affect the operation of the elevator or cause malfunctions, making the elevator run less smoothly.

Therefore, it is very necessary to clean the elevator to both prevent bacteria harmful to health, keep the elevator clean and well-ventilated, and help the elevator system work better and safer.

Do you know how to properly clean the elevator?

Elevator cleaning requires a certain process to ensure optimal performance.

  1. Cleaning the space outside the landing door and landing operating panel. Landing door space is the most noticeable place, the clean landing door helps us feel more comfortable each time we use it. You can use a brush, floor cleaning solution, use a towel and solution to clean the car door, landing operating door, then wipe it with a dry clean towel.
  2. Cleaning the landing door sliding track: When cleaning inside the car, should pay special attention to the system of landing door sliding tracks because this is where sand, gravel, rocks, and dirt often enter, affecting the opening and closing of the elevator door or even causing an elevator jam. It is recommended to use brooms and brushes to completely remove dirt and hard objects in the landing track.
  3. Cleaning car walls and handrails: Elevator walls are usually designed by mirrors, or glossy stainless-steel panels that highlight the space, making the elevator shiny and clean. However, these materials will be easier to report dirt. Therefore, we need to use detergents and cleaning solutions to completely remove stains. Use a clean cloth, glass cleaning solution, stainless steel to clean the stain, then wipe it with a dry clean towel.
  4. Cleaning car operating panel: Be sure to clean the elevator buttons because in just one hour of use, it can receive tens of thousands of bacteria. Only use a clean, dry cloth and the cleaning solution recommended by the manufacturer to clean the car operating panel, then wipe it with a clean, dry cloth, do not let the button get dirty or wet.
  5. Cleaning the car floor: Cleaning the car floor is extremely important, when the elevator floor is clean, there shouldn’t be garbage jamming the elevator door or having to worry about unpleasant musty smells in the closed space.

Some principles in the process of cleaning elevators

  1. If using cleaning agents for the operating panel or for stainless steel in the car, use specialized chemicals to avoid the use of some inappropriate substances that cause stainless steel to rust.
  2. In the process of cleaning the elevator, absolutely do not let water flow into landing door, or wet the shaft because this can cause dangerous incidents, especially fire or electric shock in the elevator.
  3. In addition, do not clean the electrical system of the elevator without the thorough instruction of the elevator maintenance staff, to avoid possible risky situations.
  4. The cleaning time of the elevator needs to be quick while still ensuring the quality so as not to interrupt using the elevator.

Above are some problems related to cleaning elevators that are recommended to users. Be sure to care for your elevator to keep the elevator clean and safe and increase elevator lifespan. You will feel comfortable and satisfied when you step into the elevator every day.
